Automation Is Moving At A Breakneck Pace: Here's How That Trend Is Being Leveraged In Enterprise IT
With the rapid pace with which automation is advancing these days, certain headlines that may have once seemed ripped from the pages of an Isaac Asimov novel are now just regular reports in the business section of the news.

Take this recent CNBC headline: 'Robots could surpass workers at Amazon by 2030 .,' referring to the multinational technology company's plans to utilize automated robots moving into the future.
'If you compare the number of robots Amazon has to the number of employees, it's about a third. And we believe that by the year 2030, Amazon can have more robots than employees,' Cathie Wood, chief executive officer and chief investment officer at Ark Invest, told CNBC's 'Squawk Box.'

Five Reasons Why CISOs Should Report To CEOs
For this research, we examined Forrester data on CISO reporting and organizational structures: CEO- and board-aligned; IT-aligned; and risk-aligned.

CEO- and board-aligned CISOs report directly to the CEO or a board-level committee; IT-aligned - the most traditional approach - report into CIOs or other IT leaders; and risk-aligned leaders report into another C-level executive such as a general counsel, COO, or CFO, though most of our sample reported into a chief risk officer, hence the nomenclature.

Why CIOs Need To Revisit Desktop Virtualisation
Cloud computing is the next revolution in infrastructure, but desktop IT is still very much on-premise

Desktop virtualisation is not a new concept, but IGEL, which recently moved out of the hardware business, is now partnering with major PC providers to offer thin-client access to Windows. HP, Lenovo and LG are among the hardware providers offering a range of thin-client desktop and mobile devices that run IGEL's edge operating system.
Last year, IGEL and digital workplace management specialist Liquidware commissioned a Modernizing the digital workplace study from analyst firm Freeform Dynamics, which explored desktop management. The study found that many IT decision-makers recognise the need to change desktop delivery and management due to the limitations that became apparent during and after the Covid-19 pandemic.

What Is Network File System (NFS)?
Network File System (NFS) is a networking protocol for distributed file sharing. A file system defines the way data in the form of files is stored and retrieved from storage devices, such as hard disk drives, solid-state drives and tape drives. NFS is a network file sharing protocol that defines the way files are stored and retrieved from storage devices across networks.

The NFS protocol defines a network file system, originally developed for local file sharing among Unix systems and released by Sun Microsystems in 1984. The NFS protocol specification was first published by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) as an internet protocol in RFC 1094 in 1989. The current version of the NFS protocol is documented in RFC 7530, which documents the NFS version 4 (NFSv4) Protocol.
NFS enables system administrators to share all or a portion of a file system on a networked server to make it accessible to remote computer users. Clients with authorization to access the shared file system can mount NFS shares, also known as shared file systems. NFS uses Remote Procedure Calls (RPCs) to route requests between clients and servers.

Why CISOs Change Jobs
CISOs often deliver suboptimal performance and have a short shelf life. Organizations are often at fault for both outcomes.

Being a CISO is a hard job. You must constantly balance business, technology, and regulatory requirements against things like employee and adversary behavior. You can be a superstar, build a world-class cybersecurity program, and follow best practices, providing exceptional protection for the organization. Despite this excellence, a single employee can click on a malicious web link, share a password, or misconfigure an asset, leading directly to a successful cyberattack. When this happens, it's your fault.

Zero Trust Builds On Identity Managemen
Having a robust ID management program in place is one of the most effective ways to enhance governments' cybersecurity, and experts say it is within reach.

As governments move more services online and to the cloud, zero trust's emphasis on identity management will be critical in keeping agencies and users protected, especially amid ongoing threats.
The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency listed identity as one of its five pillars of zero trust, and for state leaders, identity management is especially challenging, given the number of employees and residents that interact with state agencies and staff's vulnerability to phishing attacks targeting login credentials.

Why Your Privileged Access Management (PAM) Solution isn't Enough for Database Security
Your organization's data is at more risk than ever before, as proven by the staggering 422 million victims that were exposed in 1,802 data breaches in 2022 - only 60 short of the record set in 2021.

That number likely would have shattered records had Russia-based cybercriminals not been distracted by the invasion of Ukraine.
The consequences of a data breach are immediate, long-lasting, and financially devastating (the average U.S. breach cost $9.44 million in 2022). With the ever-growing number of cloud services and remote workers, your data has never been more dispersed. That means securing it has never been more complicated.

The Future Of Databases Is Now
Databases-those workhorses of data management-have come a long way over the past 10 years.

Users no longer must accept the tradeoffs that were commonplace in 2013, and the array of features and capabilities in relational and NoSQL databases is growing every month. In some ways, we've already arrived at the glorious future data architects envisioned for us way back then. So what's holding us back?

5 Open Source Tools To Take Control Of Your Own Data
Take your data out of the hands of proprietary corporations and into your own hands with open source solutions.

Back in the old days, there was no cloud. Everything was on your phone. Maybe you had a microSD card that you backed up everything on. Eventually, the SD card would stop working, and you lost everything unless you'd saved it on a writable CD or DVD or stored it on your PC. Self-hosting was tough in those days, and it was expensive. Software wasn't as accessible as it is now.
Today, it's common for phones not to have an SD card slot. The good news is that software is good enough that you can back up everything you own on a single Raspberry Pi, spare laptop, or mini-PC.

Unless Things Change, First Zettaflop Systems Will Need Nuclear Power, AMD's Su says
Of course the company that figured out chiplets says the answer is more chiplets

Within the next 10 years, the world's most powerful supercomputers won't just simulate nuclear reactions, they may well run on them. That is, if we don't take drastic steps to improve the efficiency of our compute architectures, AMD CEO Lisa Su said during her keynote at the International Solid-State Circuits Conference this week.
The root of the problem is that while companies like AMD and Intel have managed to roughly double the performance of their CPUs and GPUs every 2.4 years, and companies like HPE, Atos, and Lenovo have achieved similar gains roughly every 1.2 years at the system level, Su says power efficiency is lagging behind.

The Essential Guide To Securing Hybrid Workplace Environments
From here on out, hybrid and remote work are here to stay. Unfortunately, this seismic shift in the way we work has expanded the attack surface for opportunistic cybercriminals.

Mimecast's 2022 state of email security report (SOES) found that 72% of respondents experienced an increase in email-based threats over the previous 12 months. And in 2023, ransomware damages are expected to exceed $30 billion globally-making the need to secure hybrid workplace environments more urgent than ever.
The increased prevalence of malicious cyberattacks has caused many organizational leaders to view them as inevitable, driving a focus on mitigation rather than prevention. But reactive measures alone won't be enough to protect organizations as threats increase in volume, velocity and complexity.
