AT&T Mexico is moving critical IT and business processes to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to expand the benefits of mobile internet to more than 21 million subscribers and business customers in industries such as education, health and banking nationwide. With OCI, the company will be able to manage OSS/BSS workloads, analytics, and databases more efficiently in the cloud.

With NetSuite, Globalstar has been able to take advantage of an integrated business system to streamline and scale its international operations and reallocate time and resources to accelerate growth.

KDDI Corporation, one of Japan's top three telecommunications carriers and the operator of the 'au' mobile phone service, has chosen Oracle Database to modernize its online payment brand, au PAY, and customer loyalty program, au Ponta Points Program. By working with Oracle, au Pay payment processing is now five times faster than before, while au Ponta Points Program's processing performance has improved by 200 percent. In addition, Oracle helps KDDI meet changing customer needs by enabling it to develop new services and applications 30 percent faster.

Vivo, the Brazilian branch of Telefonica, is migrating essential data and processes from its data center in Campinas, Sao Paulo to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) in order to reduce IT costs and accelerate new service offerings.

As an IT leader, you know how to make the most of every moment. You've honed your reflexes, so if you see A and B, then you know to react with C.

That pattern recognition works well for day-to-day challenges, but when was the last time you were in a stable operating environment? You never know when you will experience a new type of cyberattack or need to play offense or defense with new mobile-connected device constellations or AI applications. And the list goes on.

Most enterprises globally are based in metropolitan regions because of their inherent advantages of good infrastructure and diverse customer base. But certain businesses such as manufacturing facilities and educational institutions may be in smaller cities due to cheaper land prices, government subsidies, proximity to raw materials, and lower salaries, among other reasons.

Take this recent CNBC headline: 'Robots could surpass workers at Amazon by 2030 .,' referring to the multinational technology company's plans to utilize automated robots moving into the future.

'If you compare the number of robots Amazon has to the number of employees, it's about a third. And we believe that by the year 2030, Amazon can have more robots than employees,' Cathie Wood, chief executive officer and chief investment officer at Ark Invest, told CNBC's 'Squawk Box.'

Desktop virtualisation is not a new concept, but IGEL, which recently moved out of the hardware business, is now partnering with major PC providers to offer thin-client access to Windows. HP, Lenovo and LG are among the hardware providers offering a range of thin-client desktop and mobile devices that run IGEL's edge operating system.

Last year, IGEL and digital workplace management specialist Liquidware commissioned a Modernizing the digital workplace study from analyst firm Freeform Dynamics, which explored desktop management. The study found that many IT decision-makers recognise the need to change desktop delivery and management due to the limitations that became apparent during and after the Covid-19 pandemic.

SMB 3 is built in for Windows 8, 10, and 11 as well as Windows Server 2012, 2016, and 2022. Other devices may also share files using SMB 3, such as network-attached storage (NAS) devices, printer/scanners or macOS clients. Some Microsoft technologies use SMB 3 to serve files to clients, such as Active Directory Group Policy, Windows System center and printer sharing. Some services use SMB to store and access their data files, such as Hyper-V and Microsoft SQL Server.

The NFS protocol defines a network file system, originally developed for local file sharing among Unix systems and released by Sun Microsystems in 1984. The NFS protocol specification was first published by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) as an internet protocol in RFC 1094 in 1989. The current version of the NFS protocol is documented in RFC 7530, which documents the NFS version 4 (NFSv4) Protocol.

NFS enables system administrators to share all or a portion of a file system on a networked server to make it accessible to remote computer users. Clients with authorization to access the shared file system can mount NFS shares, also known as shared file systems. NFS uses Remote Procedure Calls (RPCs) to route requests between clients and servers.

The massive British trial of a shortened four-day work week is over - and it's food for thought for companies battling to attract and keep high value employees as one of the side effects was a large drop in staff attrition.

Most of the companies involved said they would continue offering a shorter week. Of the 61 companies that participated, 56 are continuing with the four-day week (92 percent), although only a subset of 18 companies would commit to the policy becoming a permanent change.

What are Database and SQL?

A database is a set of described tables from which data can be accessed or stored. A database application requires a communication medium between the front end and the database. This is where SQL comes into the picture.

Back in the old days, there was no cloud. Everything was on your phone. Maybe you had a microSD card that you backed up everything on. Within the next 10 years, the world's most powerful supercomputers won't just simulate nuclear reactions, they may well run on them. That is, if we don't take drastic steps to improve the efficiency of our compute architectures, AMD CEO Lisa Su said during her keynote at the International Solid-State Circuits Conference this week.
